NFL Draft: Eagles pick Alex Henery, K, Nebraska - 4th rd, pick 23 (120)

    Nice knowing ya, David Akers.

    Overview

Henery could be a solid kicker in the NFL. Possesses a big, strong leg with the range to hit very long field goal attempts but accuracy does drop some from over 50 yards. Outstanding accuracy and consistency on shorter kicks. Has experience punting, flashes the ability to directionally kick, but doesn't get enough consistent hang-time or distance. Solid athlete who can handle poor snaps and angle a returner toward the sideline. Henery has the experience, versatility, and mentality (pressure kicks, success in bad weather) to warrant a seventh round selection or priority free agent grade.

#1 ranked kicker in the draft. Also averaged 43.9 on punts last year.
The best team won and then Ruben Amaro Jr. was hired and ****ed it all up

Henery is projected to be a place-kicker at the next level, but he could also become a solid punter with some work if his new team wants a dual specialist. And although he did not often kick off for the Huskers, he has the leg strength to give that a shot, as well.

So will he also punt, or will he challenge akers?

he kicked in college but they see him as an outside linebacker.

Yeah, seems like this dude is good, but isn't it rare for kickers to get drafted higher than like the 6th round?

Edit: just checked NFL.com...only one other kicker was drafted, at the end of the 6th by ATL. If the guy the Eagles got was the best, I guess there's a chance someone else might have taken him, but still seems like they reached a bit.
